What is a CDD Board Member?

A Community Development District (CDD) Board Member is a neighbor elected (or appointed) to help make decisions about how our community is maintained, improved, and financed. The board works together to oversee community amenities, infrastructure, and finances in the best interest of all residents.

What Do Board Members Do?

  • Attend monthly (or as scheduled) CDD meetings.
  • Help decide how community funds are spent on things like landscaping, lakes, roads, stormwater systems, and amenities.
  • Review and approve the annual budget and resident assessments.
  • Work with professional staff, such as a district manager, attorney, and engineers, who provide guidance and handle day-to-day operations.
  • Ensure contracts and services (e.g., landscaping, security, maintenance) meet community expectations.
  • Listen to resident concerns and bring them to the board for discussion.
  • Plan for the long-term upkeep and financial health of the community.

What Skills or Qualities Help?

  • An interest in the well-being of the community.
  • Willingness to learn about how CDDs work (training and staff support are available).
  • Ability to listen, ask questions, and make fair decisions.
  • Being respectful, open-minded, and community-focused.

Time Commitment & Compensation

  • Meetings are usually once a month and last 1–2 hours.
  • Occasional workshops or special meetings may be scheduled.
  • Board Members are public officials. They may receive a small stipend (up to $200 per meeting in Florida) but generally serve because they care about their community.

Why Serve?

Serving on the CDD Board is a chance to:

  • Have a voice in how community dollars are spent.
  • Help keep the neighborhood safe, attractive, and well-maintained.
  • Contribute to decisions that protect property values and improve quality of life.
